How to Find Your Purpose in Your 30s

By Moe Akel Coaching - Life Coach in Toronto for LGBTQ Professionals & Purpose-Driven Leaders

There’s a moment that quietly hits many of us in our 30s.

After you’ve built experiences, gained skills and have a prosperous career, yet internally you are still feeling this vague sense of unfulfilment.

Some questions potentially on your mind lately:

  • Is this really what I want?

  • Am I living my life… or just maintaining it?

  • How do I find my purpose in life?

If you’ve been feeling this way, let me tell you something important:

This is a sign that you are evolving!

Your Purpose Is Being Revealed

One of the biggest misconceptions I see as a life coach is this idea that purpose is something you “find” out there.

It is NOT!

Your purpose is already within you and you know it. It’s just buried under fear especially when you are in survival mode.

In your 20s, you likely focused on:

  • Stability

  • Approval

  • Career growth

  • Doing what you “should” do

But your 30s?

This is where people start seeking:

  • Career clarity

  • Meaningful work

  • Confidence and alignment

Here your truth starts calling and getting louder and louder.

Step 1: Get Honest About What’s Not Working

Before you find your purpose, you need to acknowledge where you feel misaligned.

Ask yourself:

  • What drains my energy?

This is often the first step in life coaching for clarity because clarity begins with honesty.

Step 2: Reconnect With What Makes You Feel Alive

Purpose isn’t always one big answer and it tends to show up in patterns.

Ask yourself:

  • When do I feel most like myself?

  • What kind of conversations energize me?

  • What do people naturally come to me for?

For many of my clients, especially LGBTQ professionals navigating identity and purpose, this step is transformational.

Your purpose leaves clues around for you to notice.

Step 3: Challenge the “Shoulds”

A lot of people in their 30s feel stuck not because they lack purpose…

…but because they’re living someone else’s version of success.

  • Your career that looks good on paper

  • The expectations from family or society

  • The identity you’ve outgrown

Ask yourself:

If no one was watching… what would I choose?

That’s where your true alignment begins.

Step 4: Give Yourself Permission to Evolve

You are not meant to stay the same.

Your purpose will evolve as you evolve.

This is something I emphasize in executive coaching and personal development work:

Let go of:

  • Old identities

  • Outdated goals

  • Fear of starting again

Evolution is not failure, it actually signals growth!

Step 5: Take Small, Aligned Action

Purpose won’t come from overthinking.

It will come from taking actions.

Perhaps start small:

  • Explore new interests

  • Invest in personal growth

  • Surround yourself with aligned people

  • Seek guidance (through mentorship or coaching)

Clarity will come through movement.

To conclude

If you’re in your 30s and feeling stuck, remember that

You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You’re waking up.

And this awareness is powerful.

You don’t need to chase your purpose, it’s something you attract and reclaim.!
